BENDERA'S OCT 8 INVASION THREAT ON M'SIA JUST HOT AIR

JAKARTA, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The threat by an unregistered group of Indonesians who call themselves "Benteng Demokrasi Rakyat" (Bendera) to attack Malaysia armed with sharpened bamboo sticks is just empty talk, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry's spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said the threat was ridiculous as it would be impossible for them carrying such crude weapons like sharpened bamboo sticks to be able to pass through the border checkpoints.

"Although the threat may not become a reality, we are not turning a blind eye and have taken precautionary measures by coordinating with the Indonesian police," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

Faizasyah was asked to comment on ealier media reports that Bendera vigilantes which recently tried to "sweep" Malaysians off the streets here or who were armed with sharpened bamboo and set up roadblocks to screen for Malaysians, would this time be sending 1,500 members to attack Malaysia.

While regarding them as a bunch of people frustrated with their lives and devoid of a logical mind, he said the local media were also not reporting on Bendera anymore.
